Service to those Who Served

As the Republican incumbent for House District 43, Souza has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to Hawaiʻi's veterans through legislative action, community service, and advocacy on issues affecting veterans and military families.

Why Veterans Support Souza

Supporting Hawaiʻi's veterans and military families has been an important part of Souza's work in the Hawaiʻi State Legislature and in the community. As a member of the House Committee on Public Safety, which oversees veterans' affairs, emergency management, military matters, and public safety issues, Souza worked on legislation and policies affecting those who have served our country.

Beyond her legislative service, Souza volunteers each month at the Daniel K. Akaka VA Clinic food distribution program, helping provide assistance to veterans in the community. This direct involvement has provided valuable insight into the challenges many veterans and their families face.

Souza has introduced legislation to address veterans' needs. In 2025, she introduced HB 59, which exempts qualifying disabled veterans from county vehicle registration fees, highway beautification fees, and vehicle weight taxes, helping reduce financial burdens for veterans living with service-connected disabilities. In 2026, she introduced HB 1913, which establishes a full-time mental health coordinator position within the Office of Veterans' Services at Tripler Army Medical Center to coordinate mental and behavioral health services for veterans statewide and help connect veterans with critical resources and support.

Through her legislative service and community engagement, Souza has worked with veterans, military families, veterans service organizations, and community stakeholders to better understand issues including access to services, mental health resources, emergency preparedness, and support programs for veterans and their families.

Souza recognizes the contributions veterans have made to Hawaiʻi and the nation. Her work has focused on ensuring that veterans' perspectives are considered in the legislative process and that government remains responsive to the needs of those who have served.

Service Above Self

Souza's approach to public service reflects many of the values commonly associated with military service: duty, integrity, accountability, and commitment to others. Throughout her time in the Legislature, she has focused on showing up, doing the work, and following through on her responsibilities to the people of Makakilo and Kapolei. Colleagues and community members know her as someone who is dependable, disciplined, and willing to tackle difficult issues directly. Whether serving her constituents, volunteering in the community, or advocating for government accountability, Souza has emphasized service above self and a steadfast commitment to the people she represents.
